Make your revision time count

The challenge is not always learning more. It is knowing what to focus on.

IFoA subjects contain a lot of material. It is easy to spend hours rereading notes or practising comfortable areas without fixing what is actually costing you marks.

Know what to focus on

Identify weaker areas and prioritise the topics and skills most worth your remaining revision time.

Understand difficult topics

Work through concepts and questions step by step until you understand what you are doing and why.

Turn knowledge into marks

Improve question technique, time management and the way you apply what you know under exam conditions.

Plan the workload

Do not underestimate how much study time the subjects need.

The IFoA publishes recommended study hours for each subject. I found keeping an eye on those totals genuinely useful because it stopped me underestimating topics and leaving too much for the end.

CS1200 hoursIFoA recommended study time

These are overall subject study-hour recommendations, not hours you need to fit into your final revision window. See the IFoA recommended study hours.

Oliver, qualified actuary and actuarial manager
About me

Hi, I’m Oliver.

I’m a qualified actuary and actuarial manager, and I recently completed the IFoA qualification myself.

I know how difficult it can be to judge whether you are revising effectively. There is a lot to cover, and it is easy to spend too much time rereading notes or working on areas that are not actually holding you back.

My sessions are tailored around what you need help with, whether that is understanding a difficult topic, working through questions, improving exam technique or deciding how best to use the revision time you have left.

Sessions built around you.

Tell me what you need

Send the topics or questions you are struggling with. If you are unsure, tell me where you are in your revision and we can decide what would help most.

We focus the session

There is no fixed lesson plan. We spend the time on the areas that are most useful to you, using Microsoft Teams and screen sharing.

Leave knowing what to do next

You should finish with a better understanding of the topic and a clearer idea of where to focus your revision afterwards.

FAQs

Common questions.

Do I need to book regular sessions?

No. You can book a single session, a handful of sessions around particular topics, or more regular support if that is useful.

What can we cover?

Anything within CM1, CS1 or CB1, including difficult concepts, questions, practical work, exam technique and deciding how best to use your remaining revision time.

Can you help me decide what I should be revising?

Yes. One of the main aims of the tutoring is to make revision more focused. We can identify weaker areas and work out where your remaining time is most likely to make a difference.

How are sessions delivered?

Sessions are online using Microsoft Teams with screen sharing. You can send topics or questions in advance so I can prepare around what you need.

What if I am not sure whether tutoring is worth it?

Book the free 15-minute call or email me first. There is no obligation to book a paid session afterwards.

No-pressure first step
